By way of background, yours truly was the proud 1/5th owner of one half-season Celtics ticket package. That meant I got four regular season games. When it came time to draw for playoff spots I was EXTREMELY LUCKY enough to draw “round 4, home game 3.” That means game 6 of the NBA finals for all you laypeople out there. Adam, Josh and Don were nice enough not to make up some story about losing the tickets and I actually got to be there to see the Celtics win their first championship in 22 years. Thanks guys!
Getting there was a little tricky as I was staying in DC and had to be in Philadelphia the next day for a Red Sox/Phillies game. So on Tuesday morning I drove up to Philly from DC, flew to Boston, picked up the tickets and headed to the game with Riley. We were out until two in the morning smoking cigars and drinking with the rest of the city then I was up at 5:30 for my 7:15 flight back to Philly in time to get to the stadium early enough to complete a proper review. I’m afraid if I provide any further details about the charmed life I’m leading it may mean my demise at the hands of a jealous assassin. Although, I have to mention that Riley and I won some money on the Celtics scratch tickets we played that night :-)
Without further ado, here’s the highlight reel…
High Points:
Looking more “towney” than ever, I prepared to witness history.
Of course we needed to take a picture with the trophy. Also, it was a gorgeous night.
Riley rocked the Larry Legend jersey and methinks it was good luck.
The energy was palpable from the second we walked in. I’ve never in my life been to a sporting event that had the energy the Garden had that night. It was incredible. I’d like to say these were our seats but alas, we were in the upper deck. Much closer to midcourt though, which was nice.
Tip off! (Somehow Perk forgot to jump in the most important game of his life…)
Pretty closely contested first quarter…which makes the final score all the more impressive!
We did it!
Half way home, boys!
Almost there!
I loved how EVERYONE was decked out in green. It was just like St. Patty’s, but better.
Awww…sad Lakers bench :-(
What’s that, Bill Russell? Why yes, the Lakers ARE choking!
Hondo!
GINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
I caught it on replay.
OK, ready?
THREE…TWO…ONE…
Euphoria is the only word I could use to describe this atmosphere.
We win.
Kobe doesn't.
Spark 'em up, boys!
Outside there was mahem...
And riot police...
And the Hulk?!
And banner number 17...
And more smoking...
And SWAT vans with random chicks!
Pretty much, greatest night ever!!
Low Points:
I had to get up on two hours sleep to catch my flight back to Philly. This is me in the train station and I look better in this picture than the couple of others I took…and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
